Joanne Williams

Professional Profile

I have been a Colorectal Nurse Specialist at Good Hope Hospital for 9 years. After gaining experience as a Surgical Ward Sister and studying for a Degree in Clinical Nursing Studies, I chose to specialise in Colorectal Surgery.

I have advanced knowledge of conditions affecting the bowel. I work closely with many other health professionals within the hospital and community to support people affected by these conditions at what can be a very frightening and anxious time. I also provide these services to patients being treated at Spire Hospital, Little Aston.

Working closely with my surgical colleagues I provide pre operative advice and support prior to bowel surgery, preparation prior to stoma formation, stoma teaching and follow up and support following major bowel surgery.

Training

I trained at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 1988. I worked as a Staff Nurse within the Surgical Directorate at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital until 1996 when I joined Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield as a Ward Sister on a predominantly colorectal surgical ward.
