I was appointed as a consultant surgeon to Good Hope Hospital in 2004. I offer both elective and emergency care in general and colorectal surgery. I am a specialist in colorectal surgery and have a special interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disorders. I offer ileo-anal pouch surgery to patients with colitis, in order to avoid the need for a permanent stoma. Currently, I am the lead IBD surgeon for Heart of England Foundation Trust. In last 8 years as a consultant colorectal surgeon I have operated on nearly 150 bowel cancers.
In addition to my specialist work I also treat common clinical conditions like fistulae, haemorrhoids and rectal bleeding. I also perform colonoscopies and laparoscopic surgery.
My other interest is in teaching, training and safety. I have attended various courses in medical education and patient safety.
I commenced my surgical training in India in 1988. I continued my training in the UK (1994-2004) before taking up my current role. I was trained in Wales working in Swansea and Cardiff. I gained experience in the management of IBD and advanced rectal cancers in Swansea.
I am married with a son. I spend my free time playing chess or cycling with my son. I enjoy cooking and experiment with food. Visiting our holy temple is an important part of my routine.
